SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) - Nolan Ryan says he is still discussing with Texas Rangers ownership his role as the team's chief executive officer.

Ryan issued a statement Sunday that he has met in person with team co-chairmen Ray Davis and Bob Simpson and that the "conversations have been productive." Ryan says they agreed that "these discussions will continue as we go forward."

Speculation about Ryan's role and future with the Rangers has been growing since some seemingly routine promotions nine days earlier. Ryan had remained quiet publicly during that span.

Team ownership announced March 1 that general manager Jon Daniels and chief operating officer Rick George had been promoted and had new presidential titles. Ryan had been president and CEO.
