The Associated Press recently ran an article by Don Thompson, titled, ?California Driver?s Licenses for Undocumented Immigrants Bill Signed Into Law By Gov.Jerry Brown?.
The new law will allow the California DMV to issue licenses to undocumented Immigrants eligible for work permits under the new Obama administration policy (deferred action program). According to the article, ?the bill requires the department to accept as proof of legal residence whatever document the federal government provides to participants in its deferred action program?. (emphasis added).
According to an article written by Jim Sanders of the Sacramento Bee (written prior to the law being signed by Governor Brown), ?this law would apply to an estimated 400,000 undocumented immigrants expected to meet the requirements of the President?s deferred action for childhood arrivals program?. Click here?to see the Sacramento Bee article titled: ?Driver?s license bill passes?
?Assemblyman Gil Cedillo proposed the legislation as part of a decade long campaign to give undocumented immigrants the right to apply for California driver?s licenses.?
The rationale for this law, again according to the Sacramento Bee, is that ? it would enhance public safety by ensuring that they are trained and tested before hitting the road?.
Opponents had tried to stop this law from taking effect in the past arguing, again from the Sacramento Bee article, that ?providing new benefits to undocumented immigrants is a slap in the face to Californians and to people who entered the country legally?. Obviously the California legislature and California Governor Jerry Brown did not agree with these arguments.

Your legal articles are very helpful, especially ones regarding immigration. You must be a very good immigration attorney and you may know a lot of professionals in this practice area. I think, some of them could be listed in my Attorney Directory. I invite there good US attorneys. For example, this is a category with California immigration attorneys.
